Course Modules
- Introduction To Medical Law
An engaging and accessible introductory account of the main principles of Medical Law. This module will also cover the differences between criminal law and civil law, in the context of health care and also an analysis on legal standards for medical negligence, duty of care, causation and damages.
- Understanding Doctor – Patient Communication
Identify and understand key components of obtaining patient consent in Malaysia. The module also covers the legal framework surrounding informed consent, capacity to consent, decision-making processes in medical treatment and confidentiality in clinical practice.
- Institutional Accountability in Healthcare
Understand the importance of accountability in healthcare and the need for a statutory duty of candour to promote accountability. This module also gives an overview of statutory mechanisms of ensuring accountability in healthcare such as mortality assessment committees and patience grievance mechanisms and procedure.
- Recent Developments In The Assessment of Damages In Medical Negligence Claims
Explore the changes to the methodology used in deriving the multiplier for calculating future damages in catastrophic injury cases. This module also allows you to assess the cost of future accommodation needs for claimants with catastrophic injury cases and the recent trends in awards for aggravated damages.
- Dispute Resolution For Medical Negligence Claims
Identify and understand the current medical dispute resolution scenario. This module also allows you to explore mediation as an alternative solution to resolution dispute and recommends improvements in the Malaysian medical negligence dispute resolution framework.
- Recent Developments In Healthcare & Medical Law In Malaysia
This module will provide an overview of the current landscape of medical law in Malaysia, and allow participants to explore recent landmark decisions from Medico-Legal cases.
